I have just released a new urban fantasy. This one was a blast to write. It’s pretty tightly paced as it follows a powerful elemental hunting for her friend’s killer. If you like Truth Seer or Lost in Front of You, check it out today. It’s called When Fire Wants to Burn.
The first book is available for free on my website or via the distributors below. However, please note it’s not free on Kindle. One of the reasons this newsletter is late this month is I tried to get Amazon to price match to free – but they refused. Unlike all the other retailers, you can’t physically set books to free on the Zon. You have to show them it’s free elsewhere and ask for them to price match. This time they said nope, which is super frustrating. One of the reasons I had to stop publishing boxsets to Amazon was they started erroneously price matching all of them to free, regardless of how many times I pointed out this was wrong. Easiest solution was to just not give them more box sets. I’m unsure if this new problem will last. When I publish my next series, if they refuse to price match the first book, I’ll think of something. But the simplest thing for you, dear reader, is to just get the first book elsewhere. You can even get it free from my website and read it in your browser right now.

In other news, I’ve decided to put some titles in Kindle Unlimited (ironic, right?). Though I’ve put a few books in and out of it in the past, it’s never felt like the business model for me. However, with harder economic times, it’s simply better value for readers. I’ve also appreciated it’s largely its own market. KU readers don’t necessarily buy books, and if I want to reach them, I have to offer them some content. I’ll be putting some older, less-successful titles in. At the moment, I’m concentrating on putting the Supreme Outer Guardian series in there, but after a massive rewrite. It’s taking a lot of my time. I wrote most of them around the same time, and they were incredibly philosophical, to the point where I killed the pacing. Now I’m going back and removing a lot of those long-winded internal monologues. It’ll take a while, but I hope to have the series up by the end of the week. I’m cutting each series by about half. Which gives you an idea of how much I’d slowed down the pace with internal monologue. I haven’t changed the tone of the series. It’s still higher-concept than the Galactic Coalition Series. The books are (now, at least) quick and full of action, but I still wouldn’t class them as light reads. For example, one deals with the recursive problems of someone seeing future echoes of an assassination they never commit and the temporal fractures it causes. If you prefer your sci-fi simple, maybe steer clear.
When I re-release the new titles, they won’t be updates of existing titles but new ones. So if you’ve bought them in the past, you’ll still have access to the old book. If I simply updated them, you’d lose the old versions. If you’re subscribed to my alerts on Amazon, you’ll see them come up when they’re published.
If you’re interested in a much smoother, faster Supreme Outer Guardian series, have a look for it in a week or so. Then I’ll move on to My Better Devil. That will also require a fair amount of editing. It’s slow going, unfortunately.
Which brings me to my next point. There’ll likely not be a new release in December. It’s a pain to release in that month anyway. Due to Christmas, a lot of retailers slow down publication, making it hard to coordinate things. The next new release will be in January. For the next two months, I’ll concentrate on editing those old titles for KU.
As for what I’ve been writing, I just finished GCA 32. It doesn’t even have a title yet. When I get around to its final edit in a couple of months, then I’ll figure out what I should call it. Usually, the title jumps out when I’m writing, but not this time!
As for what’s next, I have no clue. When I don’t have a new idea yet, I write a couple of short blurbs and see what sticks. Hopefully, I will have started before the next newsletter – though I’m certain I will have. Whenever I don’t write for long periods, I feel weird!
That’s it from me. Happy reading 😊.
